The 36th District Meeting will be held at the Fairmont Olympic Hotel this month. It’s not really our usual meeting, which is canceled, but it is the KCGOP Fall Dinner. Sign up for it at www.kcgop.org
Please attend if you possibly can. This is the Party’s main push to raise money to support our candidates. As you know we have several legislative candidates leading after the primary and others within a few points. It is our best opportunity to gain seats in many years and even send a Republican to the US Senate, so please help if you can.
We have been asked to fill a table of 10. If we do, we will get one free VIP ticket for the reception. Everyone who signs up will have their names put into a drawing and the winner will get the VIP pass. Please let me know if you are going.
The Fall Dinner will be held on Thursday, September 16th in the Spanish Ballroom of the Fairmont Hotel (formerly the Olympic Four Seasons) in Seattle. The Reception will begin at 6:00 pm, the Dinner and Auction at 7:00 pm. Terry Rossi will open the evening followed by our featured speaker Kate Obenshain, a conservative political commentator and Vice President of Young America’s Foundation. She served as Chairman of the Virginia Republican Party from 2003-2006 as the first woman Chair in the history of the VRP.

The King County Council will be voting at 1:30 this afternoon on increasing the sales tax. If possible please attend the Council Meeting in the Council Chambers, King County Courthouse, 516 3rd Avenue, Seattle.
KCGOP Chair Lori Sotelo writes:
Today the King County Council will take the final vote on a sales tax increase for King County. The Council Members who are standing against the increase are taking some real heat. I know there are protests planned by the sales tax proponents this morning.
Please help get folks to the Council Meeting today at 1:30pm who do not support a tax increase.
I am just informed that there is a possibility that the five council members supporting the sales tax increase will put forth a vote tomorrow to put the tax on the November ballot when the vote fails today for the primary ballot. They only need five votes to do that. Making it more important that there is a presence today.
The link from the KCGOP about the tax increase is here: http://www.kcgop.org/sitemax/GetInvolved/STOP2salestaxincrease/tabid/112/Default.aspx
Thanks,
Lori

The Municipal League is looking for volunteers to serve on its Candidate Evaluation Committee. The Municipal League’s candidate evaluations are the most influential rankings in King County. It is important that Republicans serve on the Evaluation Committee.
PCOs and other elected officials are not eligible, but all others are. Please consider volunteering for this if you can or encourage those you know to step up. The deadline for applying is May 28.

The Municipal League Candidate Evaluation Committees research election candidates, call candidate references and conduct in person candidate interviews to help produce our region’s only independent non-partisan, non-agenda driven evaluations of candidates for public office. The Municipal League ratings are an important tool for voters and one of the most important public service programs the Municipal League undertakes each year.
The application is due on May 28th and the rest of the 2010 timeline is as follows:
* CEC training sessions - June 8 and 15 (Candidate Investigators attend both)

The fall dinner is a week from Saturday. If you haven’t done so already, please sign up for it at www.kcgop.org.
This is a vital activity for the Party, providing funds to keep the organization strong so it can support our candidates in the coming year’s legislative races. We have an opportunity to take back a few seats but that requires your help. The 36th is being asked to fill a table but we cannot do that without you.
Michael Medved will be the keynote speaker. The 2009 KCGOP dinner will be held Saturday, November 21, in the Grand Ballroom of the Hyatt in Bellevue. Please go to www.kcgop.org and make your reservations.
Thank you,

Here is a message from the KCGOP, updating plans for phone banks and the final push before election day. Note that we can make calls from Hutchison HQ or from KCGOP offices in Bellevue if you are in that area.
There will not be phone banks at W Nickerson as planned earlier. If you have any questions, please leave a comment.
KCGOP Team –
We are working in conjunction with the Hutchison campaign and other local campaigns to plan a Phone Bank Super Saturday the last Saturday before Election Day. We’re heading into the final push and we need to make sure we do everything we can to bring our candidates across the finish line!
Voter turnout is still under 20% countywide, which means there are A LOT of voters yet to contact. To that end, we are planning on a countywide effort to phone bank throughout this week at our regularly scheduled phone banks, but we also want a big focus on Saturday. I know it’s Halloween, so we will keep the phone bank hours within reason.
For the city districts, phone banking will take place at the Hutchison HQ. For you east siders, we are working on a Bellevue location, but I also have a few other locations I’m working on so folks don’t have to travel too far from home.
We wanted everyone to be aware that we’re going to start working on the logistics first thing Monday morning, so you may be receiving a phone call from either Jason or myself.
In addition, we also wanted to let you know we’ll be extending phone banking hours at the KCGOP office. The office will be open for phone banking in the evening tomorrow, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday only if need be, Sunday afternoon, Monday evening, and Tuesday during the day. Please let your PCOs know they are welcome to come and phone bank at any time.

Election day is coming fast and it is essential that we get out the vote. Susan Hutchison has a real chance at taking the County Executive office and others we have endorsed are in tight races. Let’s get every vote possible for them.
The 36th has been asked to staff the phone bank for just three days, Wednesday, October 21st, Wednesday, October 28th, and Monday, November 2nd from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm. The phone bank is in our District, making it as convenient as possible. It is in the offices of Approach Management Services, 130 Nickerson Street, Suite 305, Seattle, WA 98109 [map]. This is east of Seattle Pacific on the Ship Canal side of the street. Parking is available at the building.
Please put it on your schedule and plan on joining us this Wednesday and the following days listed above.
Thank you in advance for helping.
UPDATE: Please see the updated post on this!
